Microinverters Not Reporting

Troubleshooting Guide

This error happens when the Envoy, the ‘gateway’ that manages your solar panel system, can't talk to some (or all) of your panels. The Envoy checks if each panel is working well and sends this info to your online monitoring system so you can see how your panels are doing. Typically, the Microinverters Not Reporting error happens when the Envoy is too far from your system.

Causes

  • Envoy Connection Issues: Poor internet connection or Envoy not properly connected.

    • Q: Did you recently change any settings on your wifi network?

  • Powerline Communication Issues: The Envoy communicates with the solar system via power lines and can be sensitive to electrical noise or interference from other devices sharing the same circuit. To ensure reliable communication, it's best to locate the Envoy as closely as possible to your system and avoid having ‘noisy’ devices, such as large appliances or electronics, share the same circuit. If you see that many of the inverters are intermittently not reporting, it could be an Envoy location issue.

    • Q: Did you relocate your Envoy to a different location?

    • Q: Does it share the same outlet or circuit as a power strip, workshop equipment or motor?

  • Microinverter Connection Issues: Loose or damaged connections between microinverters. Or newly installed replacement microinverters needing to be updated.

    • Q: Did anyone recently clean your solar panels?

  • Unswapped Serial Number: When a microinverter is replaced, the serial number in your online monitoring account must be updated with the new device's serial number. It may take 24-48 hours for the new microinverter to report correctly online after the swap.

    • Q: Were any microinverters recently replaced on the system?

  • Failed Inverter: Occasionally inverters fail completely. If you see inverter(s) that have consistently not reported in quite a while, and you have ruled out the other potential causes above, it’s possible that it failed.

Troubleshooting Steps, Before You Call for Service

  • Check Array Performance:

    • Login to the Enphase Enlighten app and select Array.

    • Check the performance of panels across several days, and also in month view.

    • If you see inverters sometimes reporting and sometimes not, you can be pretty sure the problem is just a signal interference problem and there is nothing to be alarmed about. Your system is likely producing properly and only having intermittent connectivity issues.

  • Check Envoy Connection:

    • Ensure that the Envoy is connected to your home internet router.

    • Check that the Envoy's lights indicate normal operation (refer to Enphase documentation for details).

  • Power Cycle Envoy:

    • Unplug the Envoy from power, wait for a few minutes, and then plug it back in.

    • Monitor the Enlighten app to see if the microinverters start reporting again, it will take a few minutes for it to reconnect and begin working again.

  • Check for Firmware Updates:

    • Enphase Envoys are designed to update their firmware automatically when connected to the internet, but it’s possible a temporary network issue interrupted its internet connectivity and prevented the Envoy from receiving the update signal. To check, log in to your Enlighten account on the Enphase website. Navigate to the ‘System' tab and select “Envoy Status.” If a firmware update is available, you will see an option to update the firmware. Follow the instructions to complete the update.

Note: It’s important to follow these steps carefully and safely. If you’re unsure about any step or encounter any difficulties, please contact our Service team, we are here to help.
